Meningioma Treatments

Meningiomas of the skull base can be resected (surgically removed) using a minimally invasive technique called neuroendoscopy. In neuroendoscopy, your brain tumor is removed through your nose using an endoscope (a thin, flexible lighted tube equipped with a high-definition camera). The procedure typically doesn’t require any incisions and usually means a shorter hospital stay and less recovery.

CyberKnife radiosurgery can be a standalone treatment or used with microsurgery or neuroendoscopy. It’s a non-invasive radiation treatment utilizing high-powered X-rays, computers, robotics, and image-guidance technology to pinpoint and destroy small tumors.

CyberKnife is the only system of its kind that can accurately deliver radiation to moving tumor targets, adjusting for even the tiniest movements you make while breathing to limit exposure to healthy tissue nearby.

Since skull base meningiomas are often located close to important nerves and blood vessels, including those responsible for sight, CyberKnife’s precision is crucial in helping your physician avoid complications, like blindness and gate disturbance (an abnormal way of walking).
