Susan O’Mara, MD is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician, and serves as chair of the MedStar Washington Hospital Center Department of Emergency Medicine.  She is also an assistant professor of Emergency Medicine at Georgetown University.
 
Dr. O’Mara received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, and her medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.  She completed her Emergency Medicine residency at George Washington University Hospital, where she also served as chief resident.  
 
Teamwork is a central focus of Dr. O’Mara’s leadership, and she considers patients and their loved ones to be important members of the healthcare team. She has a strong interest in physician wellness, and has lectured locally and nationally on the topic of emotional boundaries and avoiding burnout in the practice of Emergency Medicine.  As chair of the Emergency Department, she is committed to fostering a culture of kindness, open communication, mutual respect, and excellent patient care.
