Welcome to MedStar Washington Hospital Center Medical Imaging School of Radiology
Originating in 1959 as a Radiographer training initiative, the program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center has evolved over the years. Since its inaugural graduating class in 1961, it stands today as the sole Radiography program in the District of Columbia, serving as a crucial talent pipeline for local hospitals and imaging centers.
At MedStar Washington Hospital Center, we hold each student at the Medical Imaging School of Radiology in high regard, recognizing their rights and privileges.
The insights, feedback, and contributions from previous students have been instrumental in shaping the Radiography Program, enriching it with valuable perspectives, and enhancing its effectiveness.

*On January 8, 2024, the MedStar Washington Hospital Center Medical Imaging School of Radiology was notified and placed on Maintenance of Probation accreditation status by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) due to lack of compliance with Standard Six, Objective 6.1.

Program mission & goals
Mission Statement
The MedStar Washington Hospital Center Medical Imaging School of Radiology seeks to develop entry-level radiographers skilled in diagnostic imaging within a patient and family-centered care environment. The mission of the program is to produce well-educated, culturally, and clinically competent, highly motivated medical imaging professionals who will safely perform diagnostic imaging procedures and to provide safe and compassionate patient care.
Program Goals & Student Learning Outcomes

Credentialing Examination: The number of students who pass, on the first attempt, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination, or an unrestricted state licensing examination, compared with the number of graduates who take the examination within six months of graduation. The five-year average benchmark established by the JRCERT is 75%.

Affiliation Agreement
MedStar Washington Hospital Center Medical Imaging School of Radiology and Trinity Washington University have entered an agreement to provide students the opportunity to earn a Certificate in Radiologic Technology from MedStar Washington Hospital Center Medical Imaging School of Radiology while simultaneously earning an Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology from Trinity Washington University. Upon completion of the Trinity Washington University Associate degree requirements and the MWHC Medical Imaging School of Radiology Certificate requirements students have the opportunity to return to Trinity Washington University for an additional year to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography.
