The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Recognizes Nurse Joy Moore as 2015 Hematology/Oncology Nurse of the Year
The National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has named Joy Moore, RN, the 2015 Hematology/Oncology Nurse of the Year. Moore is a veteran nurse in the oncology unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The award honors nurses who make a difference in the treatment of patients with blood cancers and are at the forefront of patient care.

Washington, D.C., September 9, 2015 – The National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has named Joy Moore, RN, the 2015 Hematology/Oncology Nurse of the Year. Moore is a veteran nurse in the oncology unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The award honors nurses who make a difference in the treatment of patients with blood cancers and are at the forefront of patient care.
Moore’s colleagues describe her as a committed professional, dedicated to providing compassionate care to patients with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
“Joy is a devoted nurse. Her passion is evident in every interaction she has with her patients and their families,” said Jane McGee, MS, RN, senior nursing director, Medical Surgical Nursing.
Moore is often referred to as a mentor and a role model.
“Joy is a valuable asset to our unit and the Hospital Center. She’s friendly, knowledgeable, and her infectious smile just makes her patients and co-workers want to be around her,” said Vera Malkovska, MD, director of Hematology.
LLS presented Moore with the prestigious award at a celebratory luncheon with her team at the hospital. She also received a $500 scholarship toward a continuing education program of her choice and a gift package at a local spa. Moore acknowledged God, her family and her team when she accepted the award for nursing excellence in Oncology.
