Physician Director, Quality & Safety, Risk Management, Infection Control and Clinical IT
Arthur St. André, MD, FCCM, wears several hats as a member of the executive leadership team. He is physician director, Quality & Safety, Risk Management, Infection Control and Clinical IT, and also serves as the clinical director for Surgical Critical Care Services.
Dr. St. André is a member of the hospital’s Board of Directors, and is the treasurer for the Medical & Dental Staff. Dr. St. André currently chairs the hospital’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and co-chairs the Information Technology Executive Committee.
Dr. St. André is a cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and his medical degree is from Thomas Jefferson Medical College. He was a critical care fellow at George Washington University Hospital and has been at MedStar Washington Hospital Center since 1980. He is a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, and received the highest award from the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Shubin-Weil Award for Excellence.
As a past member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, he sat on the Critical Care Medicine Board, to develop policy and write the certifying exam questions. Dr. St. André is also a member of the Board of the Facilities Guidelines Institute, which is responsible for guidelines for the design and construction of health care facilities. His special interests are as a clinical educator, hospital operations and the effective incorporation of clinical information technology.
