Chief Operating Officer
Robert S. Ross serves as Chief Operating Officer for MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He is responsible for overall operations, and leads the direction of key operating system that touch all aspects of patient care and services. Ross chairs the Practice Management Improvement Committee and the Patient Throughput and Bed Modernization Initiative, and co-chairs several other hospital-wide committees.
Previously, Ross served as President and CEO of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, New York, and led a 392-bed health system that included long-term care, home health and a medical group. He began his career at St. Luke’s as vice president of operations, and took on progressively more responsibilities during his tenure. Under his direction, the hospital achieved patient safety awards from Healthgrades® for five years in a row, one of only 35 hospitals nationwide to earn this distinction.
Ross earned his master’s degree in Health Services Administration from The George Washington University, and completed an administrative residency at Sibley Memorial Hospital.
