Tiffany Simpkins Northern is the vice president for hospital operations. In her role, she is responsible for the management and strategy development for clinical support services to include: Respiratory Therapy, Lab and Pathology Services, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitative Services, Clinical Engineering, Plant Operations, Public Safety, Supply Chain, Food and Nutrition Services, Environmental Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Emergency Preparedness and patient and associate transportation services. Prior to her promotion, Northern was recruited to Medstar Washington Hospital Center as the assistant vice president for support services, in 2014.
Before joining Medstar Health, Northern served in several progressive leadership roles with the Hospital Corporation of America (HCAHealthcare) for eight years, and participated in HCA’s Executive Development Program. She served as the associate chief operating officer for Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital Las Vegas, where she had oversight for several ancillary and support service strategies and departments, including all major hospital construction projects. She also served as the assistant administrator for MountainView Hospital, also in Las Vegas.
Northern holds a Master’s degree in Health Administration from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Alabama State University. In 2011, Northern earned and continues to hold the distinction as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). She has been named nationally as one of only six 2019 Executive Diversity Program Scholars with the American College for Healthcare Executives.
