With a history of colon cancer in his own family, Dr. FitzGerald chose to specialize in treating colorectal disease because it allows him to make a significant difference in people's lives. As an assistant professor of clinical surgery at Georgetown University and program director of MedStar's residency in colon and rectal surgery, Dr. FitzGerald plays an important role in preparing the next generation of doctors.
