criticalcare

At MedStar Washington Hospital Center, there are seven Intensive Care units. Each unit is geared toward the care of different types of patients, and all are staffed by physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other professionals trained in the care of critically ill patients.

  • Cardiovascular Surgery Recovery Room (CVRR): Patients who have just undergone cardiac surgery are in this ICU for a minimum of one night. Patients who are stable are transferred to the Cardiac Surgery step down unit the day after surgery. Those requiring further critical care are moved to a private room in one of our other ICUs and remain under the care of the critical care team.
