A procedure in which the patient is sedated and a small flexible tube is passed through the rectum and guided to the first part of the small intestine. This procedure is intended to visualize the inside lining of the large intestine. Using video technology and advanced endoscopic equipment, our endoscopists can take tissue samples and perform polypectomies during the colonoscopy.

This procedure involves bowel preparation with one day of a clear liquid diet and a large laxative solution. Your specific bowel prep will be prescribed by your doctor. This procedure typically takes less than 40 minutes, and you may go home after a short recovery period.

Our gastroenterology department offers colon cancer screening for individuals over the age of 50, those with a family history of colon cancer or polyps, and special at risk patient populations. You will be evaluated in our clinic by a gastroenterologist or nurse practitioner to be sure you are safe to have a colonoscopy. Colonoscopies are outpatient procedures performed here at the hospital.

Please call us to make an appointment for a colonoscopy screening consult.
