Expert Diagnosis and Treatment

Our team of infectious disease physicians offers a variety of specialized services to patients suffering from infectious disease—from simple infections to complex illness caused by organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites.

Our comprehensive inpatient consultation services are a critical part of acute care services for patients hospitalized at MedStar Washington Hospital Center—the region’s busiest tertiary referral center.

We also provide evaluation and long-term treatment and care management to hundreds of patients through the Infectious Disease Outpatient Clinic. The team takes an integrated approach to care and is committed to not only providing appropriate therapies, but also to helping patients live fully despite their illness.

Inpatient and Outpatient Services

Outpatient Consultation and Care

Our infectious disease doctors also provide evaluation and diagnosis for patients with suspected infection as well as monitoring of long-term or recurrent infections in its outpatient clinic, which is open four-days each week.

Patients benefit from the most advanced therapies for chronic infectious diseases, including sophisticated antibiotic drug infusion, and the latest treatment regimens now available for Hepatitis C.

Our clinic is also a recipient of Ryan White funding, which is the single largest federal program designed specifically for people with HIV/AIDS. Through this generous grant, the outpatient clinic provides medical care, case management, and social work and peer navigator services to individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS.

The clinic’s skilled nursing staff also provides home infusion services to patients who require it, and outreach and education to patients and families to help them manage a chronic infectious illness.

Conditions evaluated and treated in our clinic include:

  • Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B
  • Multi-drug resistant forms of infection
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Fungal infections
  • Transplant risks and possible infections
