Although cardiac CTs are ordered by a physician, the patient is responsible for scheduling the exam, by calling our cardiac imaging scheduling desk at 202-877-XRAY (9729). The office is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. When calling, please have the following information ready:
- the ordering physician's name
- the reason for the test (usually described by the patient's symptoms, such as chest pain)
- insurance information
Depending on the patient's age and medical history, and if the patient will be administered intravenous contrast (“dye”), the ordering physician may need to have the patient take a blood test, called a creatinine, before the CT scan. The scheduler will inform the patient if this test is required.
If contrast is to be used, and the patient has known allergies to intravenous contrast, the referring physician will need to provide a prescription for medications to take the day before the test.
