Phimosis occurs when the foreskin covering the head of the penis is tight, preventing it from retracting over the head of the penis. This can interfere with the flow of urine and can result in ‘ballooning’ of the foreskin with urination, and infections of the head of the penis and the urine itself. Sometimes, it may be a sign of diabetes or other medical conditions.
Treatment of phimosis depends on the severity and includes topical (cream) therapies and usually surgery (dorsal slit, circumcision).
