Allen Derina, AuD., CCC-A

Allen Derina, Au.D., CCC-A joined the Hearing and Speech Center in June 2018. Prior to working with MedStar Washington Hospital Center, he completed his doctoral externship at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. His clinical interests include diagnostic audiology, auditory electrophysiology, aural rehabilitation, vestibular assessment/rehabilitation, and tinnitus management.

Additional Training, Education & Research

Dr. Derina earned both the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Audiology degrees in 2018 and 2016, respectively, from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (Knoxville, TN). In addition to his training at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, he completed additional training from the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (Nashville, TN) and the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He also earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a Minor in Music from James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA) in 2014.

Kelsey Gleason, AuD., CCC-A

kelsey-gleasonKelsey Gleason joined the Hearing and Speech Center in August 2015. Prior to working at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, she completed her 4th year student externship at Boston Medical Center in Massachusetts.

Her clinical background includes both adult and pediatric comprehensive audiologic evaluations and evoked potential measurements in addition to adult vestibular assessments. She also has experience with adult and pediatric rehabilitative audiology including selection, fitting, and management of hearing aids.

  • She completed her undergraduate studies at Boston University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.   She went on to receive her doctoral degree in audiology (Au.D) from Montclair State University in New Jersey. Her doctoral thesis was titled “The Effects of Background Noise on Foreign and Native Accent Perception: An ERP Study”

Michal Reuven, AuD., CCC-A

REUVEN michalMichal Reuven joined the Hearing and Speech Center in November 2014 after completing her fourth year externship       at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Her clinical background includes both adult and pediatric comprehensive audiologic evaluations and evoked potential measurements in addition to adult vestibular assessments. She also has experience with adult and pediatric rehabilitative audiology including selection, fitting, and management of hearing aids and cochlear implants.

Additional Training, Education & Research

Michal received her doctoral degree in audiology (AuD) at University of Maryland, College Park. During her time as a graduate student, she participated in the T35 Research Traineeship sponsored by the NIDCD and collaborated as first author on a publication titled, “Effect of calibration on distortion-product otoacoustic emission measurements at and around 4 kHz.” Michal attended University of Maryland as an undergraduate student as well, during which time she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Miki Shibata, MS, CCC-SLP

Miki joined Washington Hospital Center in March 2017. Prior to her arrival to Washington Hospital Center, Miki practiced speech pathology across different clinical settings (sub-acute rehabilitation, inpatient rehabilitation, acute care) throughout MD and DC. Her clinical interests include motor speech, swallowing, voice, cognitive-linguistic and language disorders in the adult population. She is fluent in Japanese. (Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT Level1)

Christal Surowicz, MS, CCC-A

Screen Shot 2015-01-16 at 10.22.12 AMChristal Surowicz, MS, CCC-A, is the senior audiologist at Washington Hospital Center. She has been at the Hospital Center for two decades. Christal has extensive training, experience and expertise in diagnostic audiology and hearing aids. She is a cochlear implant audiologist who is skilled in all aspects of cochlear implant work, including mapping, troubleshooting, candidacy evaluation and intra-operative monitoring. She is proficient in Spanish and American Sign Language.

Additional Training, Education & Research

Christal received her MS from Gallaudet University. She has participated in two clinical studies involving cutting edge audiological research. She was involved in the National Institutes of Health’s first case of implantation in a patient with Von-Hippel-Lindau syndrome, and in other research regarding clinical applications of otoacoustic emissions.

K. Geeta Tiwari

tiwari-geetaGeeta Tiwari is the Department of Otolaryngology and the Hearing and Speech Center’s Administrative Coordinator and manages both departments. She has been with MedStar Washington Hospital Center since 1996. Geeta has extensive experience in billing, coding, insurance requirements, and supervision. Prior to coming to the Hospital Center, she managed a private physician office in the Washington, D.C. area. 

Kathy L. Wills, MS, CCC-SLP

WILLS kathyKathy L. Wills, MS, CCC-SLP, has been a speech-language pathologist at Washington Hospital Center since 1996. Prior to her arrival at the Hospital Center, Kathy was a speech-language pathologist at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. She has extensive experience in the evaluation and treatment of patients with swallowing and voice disorders. Kathy is fluent in Spanish.

Teri Wilson-Bridges, MA, MHA, CCC-A

Teri Wilson-BridgesTeri Wilson-Bridges, MA, MHA, CCC-A, is the director of the Hearing & Speech Center, the Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, and the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery/Orthodontics as well as an audiologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She has been at the Hospital Center for more than 15 years. She has extensive experience in the field of audiology and healthcare administration with an emphasis on and interest in evaluation and management of patients with vestibular disorders and newborn hearing screening program management.

Teri received her undergraduate degree in Hearing and Speech Science and her graduate degrees in Audiology and in Healthcare Administration from the University of Maryland. She co-developed the Hospital Center’s Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program in 2001 and is Co-Chair of DC HEARS, the District of Columbia advisory board for newborn hearing screening. She serves on many hospital committees and is an active member of her professional organization.

Lauren Petuya
